Darkfield is back, and it is even more terrifying than ever.

Making its Western Australian premiere at Fringe World from January 15 to February 14 is COMA, the third installation of the multi-sensory experience that is DARKFIELD.

Set in a 40ft sea-container, guests are invited in to experience how it would feel to be in a coma like state. We sent Perth Underground writer Dana Sekar to try it out first hand, and this is what she had to say:

‘Coma by Darkfield takes you on a journey that makes you question your reality. Whilst lying on cold white bunk beds the viewers are immersed in the narrator’s chilling tone of voice. The experience takes the viewers on a journey that forces them to make a series of decisions. It all starts with the choice of taking a pill. The experience uses 360 degree audio, immersive lights and smells to make the viewers question what is real and what is fake. Are you dreaming or are you awake?’

Joining COMA are the two other DARKFIELD offerings: SEANCE and FLIGHT.

SEANCE

Seance uses binaural sound to place you at the heart of a supernatural experience. Putting your trust in the medium, you work together with the other audience members to contact the spirit world.

We will not prey upon the paranoid, the bereaved, the credulous, the wide-eyed, the weak or the inbred, but in return we ask you proceed with an open-mind. We cannot hold the medium responsible for the outcome.

FLIGHT

Flight also uses complete darkness and 360 degree sound, taking you between this world and others. You will explore quantum theory and the many-worlds that it suggests, whilst explaining to you how to avoid those worst-case flight scenarios that we all fear.

Ladies and gentlemen, we’d like to direct your attention to the on-board safety demonstration and ask that you give us your full attention. There are many worlds in which this plane lands safely.

All three Darkfield experiences transport you into a strange world of darkness, binaural sound, and sensory deprivation, blurring the lines between reality and imagination.

On bringing Darkfield to Perth for the Fringe Festival, producer at Realscape Productions Amy Johnson says:

‘We can’t think of a better place to resume the Darkfield tour than Perth. The city comes alive with the Fringe, and our WA audiences are always exceptional. For us, as well as so many other producers, FRINGE WORLD is the first step to finding our feet in a new, COVID-safe normal. We’ve missed our audiences as much as they’ve missed live experiences, so being able to premiere in WA is more than just exciting - it has given us so much to look forward to after such a bizarre year.’

Test your nerve and your sense of what is real and what is not at Darkfield during this Fringe World Festival.
