Now that the weather is warming up, many Australians are brushing off their picnic blankets ready to soak up the sun. For Aussies looking to lunch with mates al fresco, a new study by premium pizza oven brand, Gozney, has revealed the best spots in Australia for an ultimate outdoor cookout.

To determine the best location to chuck a snag on the barbie, Gozney studied 40 of Australia’s most populated locations and analysed them based on average daily temperature, days of rainfall, total daylight hours, and of those daylight hours, how many of them are actually sunny.

Taking the lead is NSW major regional city, Wagga Wagga. Sitting pretty on the Great Dividing Range, this destination is known for its leafy, green parks and old cottage homes. The city enjoys more than 50% of the day with the sun shining with a whopping 13 hours of daylight in the summer months, the highest of all listed locations. This makes Wagga Wagga an ideal location to pitch up for an all-day sausage sizzle in the park, calling dibs on your favourite beach picnic spot, or firing up the pizza oven in the backyard for some al fresco fun with friends and family.

“Aussie’s are known for their love of the outdoors, especially when it involves lighting up a BBQ or taking dinner plans out of the house and down to the beach on a warm day. The sunny season has officially started, so we’ve compiled a comprehensive list of the best places for a BBQ around the nation,,” Christian Pohio, Gozney Australia’s General Manager.

Proving west is best for BBQs, WA’s capital city of Perth came in second place due to its high average summer temperature of 24.2°C. With just one rainy day on average during the summer months, Perth is an excellent location to host a dinner party in the backyard.

Renowned for its beautiful beaches, the state could add another major tourist attraction to its belt. Interestingly, the data crowned several WA locations with 50% of the top 10 best outdoor cooking hotspots being based within the state’s borders.

“WA has an amazing outback and coastline, meaning there are so many more outdoor dining adventures to be had. Aussies can get off the beaten track and visit lesser-known outdoor foodie hotspots, from beach, to small towns, to bush. The Gozney Roccbox is the perfect day-trip companion as it’s ready to go in minutes, making it the perfect asset for any Aussie road trip this spring-summer,” said Pohio.

Interestingly, out of the top five spots, a whopping three of these were in the Perth region. In addition to the capital city, the southern suburb Rockingham came in fourth place, followed by Mandurah, a beach town 45 minutes in fifth position.

Founder of Gozney, Tom Gozney, was so inspired by outdoor cooking that he created the perfect cooking companions to do so, anywhere, anytime. His secret to nailing an all-day pizza cookout is all about preparation.

“From the dough to the toppings, preparation is key when hosting an outdoor pizza party. It’s best to prep these before your guests arrive. Whether it's pepperoni, olives or mozzarella, you should prep, chop and place them in little bowls to make it easier for your guests to choose from. Make sure you have a few different base sauce options available for everyone to make their own unique pizza. Then throw them in your Gozney oven for pizza in minutes,” he said
