The Mary Street Bakery is a vibrant and unique café that sits on the busy corner of Beaufort Street. Here I met a truly unique, bubbly and outgoing young woman, Monique – the voice and model behind her fashion, travel and lifestyle blog Little Miss Mon Bon.

Meet Monique

Starting a degree in science to now having a career as a Blogger and Freelance writer, Monique’s blogging adventures started differently to most. Literally writing her way into the blogging scene, Monique shares her distasteful interview experience, where she was asked the question “do you know what a blog is?.” Monique quotes, “I didn’t know what they were and thought the interview went terribly… so I went home and looked up what blogs were… and taught myself how to do it and never really stopped”.

The Idea of Educating

She does not write to inspire individuals, however, “enjoys the idea of writing to educate people”.  On one occasion, Monique shared how her dad called her up after reading a blog she had posted about ‘Misophonia’ – triggers that causes an individual discomfort and/ or irritation. She describes how their conversation made her “happy”, as they shared a special bond over her personal and informative blog. Monique expresses her ‘happiness’ in educating others and being able to have her family and friends relate to the content she posts.

“Extension of Personality”

Monique expresses her style and fashion as being an ‘extension of her personality’.  Establishing that she is, “a big believer of what you choose to wear should represent you, not what is trending at the moment or anything like that, you should be buying things you love”. This is evident in her blogs and photoshoots, which demonstrate her unique and quirky style. Monique is not afraid to wear big, bold colours that create a positive conversation and interest with others. Her most favourite pieces in her wardrobe currently are a silver metallic skirt, a fully sequinned white jumpsuit, and a red off the shoulder ‘crazy’ printed dress. Monique says these particular pieces in her wardrobe make her feel ‘special’.

Happiest in Yellow

A big fan of the most bright and boldest of colours, Monique loves wearing yellow in her attire. Monique has been lucky enough to work with Ryan Ammon (photographer) for various client photoshoots. Reminiscing a particular photoshoot, where the pair had driven a few kilometres out of Northam, to a bright yellow Canola Field. Sharing her experience, while walking out of a local venue, Monique tells how she was “…wearing these bright yellow culottes, off the shoulder bright yellow top and a big yellow scarf in my hair… there was this big yellow staircase begging to be shot at” –  overall, this was and still is one of Monique’s most favourite and talked about photoshoots.

Travelling the World

As a freelance writer, Monique has had many opportunities to write for Travel Companies and Airlines. Monique says so far, her most favourite travel blogs have been writing for Air Asia, “… my first job with a travel client, I was so excited to do this job for them, that it did not feel like work”. Working with Air Asia, Monique has had several opportunities to travel the world and visit some beautiful locations, including, Taiwan, Malaysia, Thailand and Cambodia.
