Pumping with the beat of oompah bands, the sound of the filling steins and the scent of sizzling bratwurst, numerous events are kicking off in Perth to celebrate the annual Bavarian festival of Oktoberfest! As the Bavarian cultural highlight of the year nears, we’ve put together a list of events where you can get your bier and bratwurst!
Elmar’s in the Valley Oktoberfest
Celebrate the flavour and fun of Germany in the heart of the Swan Valley with Elmar’s in the Valley once again opening up their massive two-acre bierngarten! At the original authentic German event, taste golden brews including the star of the festival, Elmar’s specially brewed Märzen, which has been conditioning since March and will be ready just in time for the festival! The Märzen beer has a rich amber colour with a clean, malty, thirst quenching character, which is finished off with a delicate, but firm hop flavour. You can also put your lips to Elmar’s range of wines, their pilsner and Helles beers and, for the first time this year, a selection of spirits. The event is cash-only, though ATMs will be on site, but make sure to bring cash along to avoid the queues. For a tasty treat there will be a range of traditional German cuisine, including pork shank, German bratwurst and Cheese Kransky among the range of options.
Enjoy a slew of activities including stein holding, tugs-o-war, Bratwurst eating, sack racing, human wheelbarrow, brewer’s run, three-legged race, bottle ride, dartboard soccer, pie eating, sauerkraut throw and dead hang.
Bring the whole family along with an all ages family fun day on Sunday October 13, featuring face painting, bouncy castle, a bucking bull and Cups and Saucers to entertain the kids, while you browse a range of stalls from Kanga Markets in an event first.
So bring along your chairs and picnic rugs, gents put on your lederhosen and ladies your dirndl for a day a Germany’s best biers and brats!
