Founder of Silverspoonstyle, Natalie Piper, is well-known to local Instagrammers for her eclectic and quirky home-design skills. The full-time PA, part-time wife and casual home stylist is a big-time supporter of Perth's small businesses, whose designs and collections she styles up and showcases through pictures of her beautiful home. We’ve been catching up with Natalie to hear more about her summer style obsessions, her go-to local homeware stores, and her passion for Perth-based businesses!
How did you first come to set up silverspoonstyle? Have you always had a passion for home styling?
Silver Spoon originally started three years ago as an online homewares store. But when we moved from Perth to the Gold Coast and back again, all in the space of 8 months, it was an easy decision to close it. Plus it gave me a chance to focus on what I really love - styling my home and supporting small businesses!
Silverspoonstyle has gained over 30,000 Instagram followers - did you ever expect your Instagram to become so popular?
No! My original goal was to hit 1,000 followers - so to now have over 30k is mind blowing!
How would you describe your personal design style?
I feel that my current style fits into the boho / scandi category, but it’s constantly evolving! My colour palette draws me to neutrals, lots of Pantones, colour of the year ‘greenery’, and pops of my summer obsession – pink.
Can you talk us through the styling process?
When it comes to styling I love to break the rules! I like to mix textures, clash colours, and add luxe with less - all with a liberal splash of greenery. I invest in key pieces, buy my unique decor items from other instagram businesses and purchase key trending pieces from large retailers such as Kmart. It doesn't have to make sense to anyone else - as long as you love it!
You often collaborate with different designers, artists and florists—what are your favourite Perth-based collaborations to date?
I've been very lucky to collaborate with some amazing Perth-based businesses. My favourite to date is with a Dunsborough-based artist called Natalie Briney. Natalie creates whimsical portraits of pretty ladies and trees that look great in every room.
Can you name some of your go-to interior design and homeware shops in Perth?
Having lived in Mandurah for three years, Frisky Deer Interiors is one of my go to homewares stores. I also love the eclectic mix at Empire Homewares and Little Leaf Co. is my go-to for greenery.
Are you working on any particular projects at the moment?
I am currently styling for several homewares stores, including Lane & Co Decor, Lost Design Society and Super Amart. Stay tuned as I also have some fantastic candle, cushion and print collaborations in the works too!
What do you like most about Perth?
The beaches! The sand, the water and the sunsets blow me away. And I love how Perth has embraced Instagram - we are so keen to support small and local in Perth!
What do you like least about Perth?
The cold weather! I tend to go into hibernation over winter.
Where are some of your favourite Perth hangouts?
I love Ootong & Lincoln for breakfast and great coffee, The Merrywell for a laid back Sunday session, and The Aviary is the perfect place to perch and enjoy a cocktail or two!
