Walking into Cat’s and Curiosities is like taking a journey into a whimsical wonderland. It’s every dreamers and art lovers paradise; stocking its shelves with handmade creations proudly sourced from local artisans.

This hidden gem is nestled in the Wanneroo Markets just waiting for its next Alice to fall down the rabbit hole. The product styling teeters between gothic and ‘cutesy’ with a dabbling of quirk and geekiness.

Talented owner and designer Elly-Jo, developed the concept for a store that sells upcycled one off pieces of furniture almost by accident. After moving into a new home with not much money to spare on new furniture, she used her creativity to give new life to vintage pieces she found. When she had to sell off these pieces due to another move, she was amazed by the attention they garnered online. With a lot of hard work and dedication her original store ‘Rejex’ was born.

Four years on, Elly dreamed of creating something bigger. This became a decision to re-invent her store and expand her product lines. The store has now re-emerged as Cat’s and Curiosities, an eclectic mix of art and homemade goodies which proudly supports other local small businesses.

Perusing the shelves you can discover items such as hand poured soy candles, luxurious bath bombs (created by well-loved tattoo artist Fizz Ink), framed taxidermy bugs, collector china dolls, cards, journals, pillows, jewellery and of course re-upholstered and repainted 'upcycled' furniture.

This new venture even see’s Elly using her own ‘Elly-Cat’ designs on these product, many of them featuring her beloved pet rabbit (and fan favourite) ‘Shady’. Elly revels in sharing her love of animals with others, and you can often catch Shady hanging out in the store when it’s not too hot- so make sure to drop by for a pat! Also handy with a needle and thread she takes custom orders on her ottomans upon request if none of the instore options tickle your fancy.

Elly has worked hard to make her imaginings come to fruition, and hopes to continue to create connections with other WA and Australian designers to help fill her shelves with treasures. Plans for an online store are underway and will hopefully be available in the near future.
