But, the team at Hey There Poppy are more than just florists. They have a firm belief that flowers have a deeper meaning and are passionate about spreading love and happiness, with their ethos being to “share the love and add some colour to your day.”
Hey There Poppy, officially opened their doors back in 2016 and have continued to grow ever since.
I think our story is pretty positive with a great message to pass on to others who might be thinking about starting their own business, says Melissa.
Their story starts back in high school where the pair initially met. They reconnected after they had their eldest boys and often chatted about starting a business together.
They soon found they had a mutual passion for home decor, style and all things floral. After the birth of their youngest children, Mel and Jess decided to take the plunge and created a floral delivery service.
“One day in 2016, I put some flowers together, posted it on Facebook and then we decided to create Hey There Poppy.”
They called upon fellow mother and friend Jacinta to train them in floristry and started operating their business around their children’s schedules and have slowly increased the amount of work they take on as their little ones have grown older.
Melissa says they have learnt so much along the way, and met so many inspirational women in Perth’s small business community. The level of passion and commitment they both share, has been reflected in Hey There Poppy’s success. Where the two are both self made business women - truly an inspiration!
This year their youngest children started school which meant more time for their beloved business. That was until Covid 19 hit. Surprisingly, the restrictions due to the virus have resulted in an influx of orders, something the girls didn’t foresee with the negative discussions surrounding the economy.
They are now more dedicated than ever to brightening up the lives of people in Perth.
“Orders started to roll in and in and in...we were inundated! Messages of love and hope being sent throughout Perth from friends and family... it has been amazing!

They wanted to create modern arrangements at a reasonable price. From fresh flower posies to larger bouquets, and blooms in jars, fish bowls and vases.
Custom orders are also available, if you know what you love and want to see your floral visions become a reality.
Fresh floral custom crowns and preserved florals are also on offer, intricately designed for special occasions such as weddings or birthdays.
It doesn’t stop there. If you are looking to liven and beautify your humble abode, Hey There Poppy also offer floral subscriptions, with delivery straight to your door each week or fortnight for up to 12 weeks.
